Mars Earrings

$20.00

Feel empowered wearing these earrings featuring Mars—hand-painted acrylic with clear coat on 1-inch wood disks—, which carries the name of the Roman god of war. Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and is often called the “Red Planet” because of the reddish orange hue caused by iron oxide on its surface. This planet may be the second-smallest in the solar system, but it is home to the largest volcano (and second-tallest known mountain) in the solar system: Olympus Mons, whose terrain has a diameter of about 550 km (340 mi) and can be seen along with three other Tharsis volcanoes on the west (left) side of the earrings.

These earrings show the geology of the western hemisphere of Mars, including the Tharsis volcanoes to the west (left) and Valles Marineris, a system of deep, interconnected canyons that would span the width of North America if placed on Earth, to the east (right). The polar caps of Mars, which are made up of carbon dioxide ice, can be seen to the north and south.
